If you had $25,000 (Php 1,250,000), what would you do? Buy a brand new car, perhaps? Travel the world? Pay for college?
A day after New York City came up with a $1,000 bagel, a local restaurateur unveiled a $25,000 chocolate sundae, setting a Guinness world record for the most expensive dessert.
Serendipity III is a popular restaurant in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Together with luxury jeweler Euphoria New York, they have created the "Frrozen Haute Chocolate," a blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of the most expensive and exotic from around the globe. The dessert, spelled with two Rs, is infused with 5 grams (0.2 ounces) of edible 23-karat gold and served in a goblet lined with edible gold. At the base of the goblet is an 18-karat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds. The sundae is topped with whipped cream covered with more gold and a side of La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound. It is eaten with a gold spoon decorated with white and chocolate-colored diamonds, which can also be taken home.
Wow. Contrary to my initial reaction, people actually buy this. But what kind of person would? $25,000 is a fortune and to squander it on something that wouldn't even take you half an hour to consume is just... hoggish. immoral. insane. That's already 5-10 years' worth of total food supply to some. The people who purchase this food--how do they sleep at night? Considering the penury outside their greedy worlds? It's not like you'll gain superpowers after eating gold. You will excrete it anyhow, just like all the other foods you eat, regardless of their prices.
I LOVE chocolate sundaes. And chocolate sundaes are still chocolate sundaes without the edible gold. There are millions of food out there that are as scrumptious, and yet a lot less expensive.
Be a wise spender when it comes to FOOD!
