Fat Fashionista! :)

Self-esteem is a constant struggle, one that you deal with regardless of your size. Being plus-size should not be a hindrance for being confident with yourself, setting your own fashion trends and being the supermodel you always dream of.

PLUS-SIZE is a term that strikes fear into the hearts of girls all over the world. It is often associated with the words: "unattractive, frumpy and fashion-free".

The article that I have read made me realized that beauty is not only shown through physical appearance but by how I carry and present myself to others. The way people view me has a lot to do with how I view myself. I have to be confident for who and what I am and stop being conscious of my appearance so that people will stop dwelling on it, too.

FAT? BIG? ENORMOUS? These words don't fear me. I don't and never will care on what others may say. As long as I know that I am decent, I look smart and have self-respect I can always wear what I want and not be bound by what people expect. I will never let my figure limit me from being a trendsetter who has color, style and life. :)

Flip It Well

Justin Bieber is today's most famous and sought after teen pop sensation. Unless you're living under a rock, you probably know him. Young girls just worship him like a god. Actually, the bottled water he used in his tour in New Zealand was sold by an addict fan at a staggering price of $855 or almost P50,000! That's how crazy his fans are for him. He has caused riots across the globe starting in the US and as far as Australia. Bieber proves that nowadays talent is not the most important thing you should have if you want to be famous. Having good looks should be enough. This is very evident in the showbiz industry in the country and now even in Hollywood as well (ex. Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Paris Hilton and yes, Justin Bieber.) Like other celebrities, Justin Bieber without a doubt has the "look". But let's just focus with his hair. His hair is one of his top assets. A clip of him blow drying his hair was actually used as a teaser for his MTV reality show, "The Diary of Justin Bieber." The article that I've read is about how guys secretly request for the "Bieber" cut in the salons. His hair flipping technique has now gotten the attention not only of the girls but of the guys' as well.

This summer, in my opinion, is the hottest yet in the country. Say it's global warming or whatever it is. The point is, it's unbearable! Usually during this season, guys go to their barbershop to have a good clean cut specifically "semi-kalbo." But what's happening now is the opposite. Try to visit any mall and you'll be surprised of how many guys have the Bieber hair. Even as young as five years old kids are now following the trend. You'll see hair flipping everywhere even inside the DLSU campus. Long hair is not advisable during summer in the Philippines where temperature ranges from 28-38 degrees Celsius. Yet, more and more guys are skipping haircut to have longer side bangs. Bangs that covers the right side of the face was once famous when being emo was considered a cool thing (until it was overused and became a stereotype. "Jejemon", you're next.) Now the hair to have is the Justin Bieber hair.

Like what the article said, Justin Bieber is a heartthrob girls adore, and us guys don't want to be associated with that. It's hard to admit but I think all of us, in a way, have a symptom of the "Fever." We are just having a hard time accepting it. Whether we like it or not, one thing is for sure though, the "Beiber Fever" is here to stay.

The War On Women's Clothing

Before I start, Sorry for the picture, can't find anything related to the topic.

Well, here it is. As the title suggests, it's all about women's clothing. I chose this article because it is the one I saw first when I was browsing reading materials so please don't think I like women's fashion.XD Anyway, the article centers on clothes that are banned in countries around the world like the United States, United Kingdom, Sudan, Brazil, Somalia, Indonesia, and many more. Some countries or places in it have dress codes that are somewhat weird, and here they are:

In the United States, Morehouse College in Atlanta, which is an all-male school, doesn't allow gay students to wear female clothes, for the school male should wear clothes for men. I agree with the school's policy because I saw some cross-dressed students in school, and it's not a very nice view. But somehow I feel sorry for these people because it is a form of discrimination eventhough it is implemented for their own good.

In U.K., the Trade Union Congress wanted employees to stop wearing stilettos. They want to ban high heels in workplaces because they think wearing high heels is a threat for human lives. I don't think ladies would follow this because most girls wear these for them to look tall, and for them, tall is good.

In Somalia, women are not allowed to wear bras. It may seem stupid but it is true. Do you know what's the reason? It is simple, it's not Islamic. I feel sorry for these people because if they were caught, they will be forced to shake their breasts and then be publicly whipped. This really shows how lucky Filipino women are. They can freely choose what they want to wear without being hurt.

In Western Indonesia, women are not allowed to wear pants or anything that reveals the curves. Guess what the reason for this ban is. I know you know what the answer is, it is also not Islamic. Luckily, officers don't beat them up unlike their Somalian counterparts. I guess I will never understand how Muslims think.

This article maybe useless for me but it is very much useful for women. This article will make them realize how important proper clothing is and how lucky they are if they are not experiencing any of these situations. May they be enlightened to follow the school's dress code because most boys, not all unfortunately, like girls who dress simple yet pleasant to the eyes. This is it, my blog for a hated topic, fashion.XD

TOPSHOP GOES MAKE UP

The quintessential international fashion label TOPSHOP officially launched its very own make up range last May. This range contains all the must-have make up essentials for Spring/Summer 2010. The full collection comes in two parts and will be refreshed twice a season; a Core Collection of first-class beauty essentials as well as a capsule Trend Collection of directional hues, both embody the bold and innovative essence of Topshop.

How cute is the packaging? It's light and fun compared to the typical dark and glossy packaging most brands lean towards. Topshop redefines make up. They made a different approach that targets women of all ages. What's even more interesting is that the range changes seasonally to follow the fashion trends. They have eyeliners (both the felt tip and kohl pencils), eyeshadows, mascaras, bronzers, blush-ons, nail polish, etc. That's not just that! Here's the catch: most of these fab products are under £10! How cool is that!

I LOVE Topshop. 'Love' doesn't even cover it. Why? Simply because it manifests chic, trendy and fashion-forward styles that I go for. I also ADORE make up. You can call me 'maarte', for all I care. I love putting on make up for the mere reason that I find it fun. There isn't anything wrong with wanting to feel good about oneself, is there? (You're probably wondering why a girl like me took up accountancy, lol.) So I love Topshop and I love make up; to have a Topshop make up is just... overwhelming. heart-stopping. breathtaking.

I dream of the day I'll be holding one that I can call my own...

Fashion Describes Your Personality

" The girl wears lacoste, i guess she's rich" or " The guy wears colorful caps and big shirts, he must be a jejemon" these quotes simply show that what we wear describes who we are. How we dress also shows what we do in life, a person would know a nurse is a nurse when they wear their uniforms. The article I read talked about how we dress and what perspective people have on us. Fashion is really a big thing now in our generation because if your not "in" your corny or something. In shows and movies one major way they give hints to the readers to know what the role of an actor is, is by their clothes. It's not just the clothes we wear but also the accessories we have. When we see a person having piercing everywhere what do we think? We assume that they are rockers, riders, or emos.

I do believe that what you wear describes and shows what your personality is sometimes. It's not always though that this saying is true, there is a saying " don't judge a book by its cover".
There are many people who judge by how a person attire that is why we should be careful on how we dress up. Now in our generation how we dress up depends on what type of outfit is a bang now.

Fashion really does change maybe every year or even months, before shirt polo shirt was in but now simple t-shirts are the new thing. In my perspective, we shouldn't mind what is in right now in our time instead we should wear the clothes we are comfortable with and what we think looks good on us. We don't need to have expensive clothing to look good, it's how we carry ourselves.

Going Gaga

So basically the article is about Lady Gaga and how she dresses up. As Lady Gaga being one of the fashion icons of the now. She sets new tremds in the fashion world. We all know that she is a very unique dresser that we sometimes call bizarre. She is has different inspirations in coming up with what she wears namely- her mom, Marilyn Manroe and Judy Garland of The Wizard of Oz. With different sources or inspirations for sense of fashion, she set new standards for fashion that we eventually knew as "GAGA". Also in the article she is now the face of MAC AID Funds and she has her own line of make-up.

For some people they really like what Lady Gaga wears. She is sort of a trend setter especially to the teens this days and some people even wear the same things that Lady Gaga especially the ones that look like bathing suits. I think I already saw those clothes in Top Shop. But for some Lady Gaga's fashion is over the top since she dresses outrageously and sometimes too strip off. Some will call her a fashion genius but for some they rather be dead than be caught wearing those things. Just like in the episode of Glee, how people find it theatrical and for some just a bunch of show offs.

I personally dont like how Lady Gaga dresses because it really depends on the taste of the person although I can personally say that she is very unque and very creative but there is just some clothes that she wears that I found over the top. But I like what she wore during Grammy's, I found call minus the one that she was holding. But overall I dont really find that it can actually be worn on ordinary days, maybe for her but not for me. I may look like a fool parading in Taft wearing those kinds of clothes.

So this article is just mainlyabout Lady Gaga and its interesting to read since she is unpredicatble when it comes to what she wears and now she has her own line in MAC and for sure its in her own unique way by adding her own touch to it. So this article is interesting but still will never bring me to the point where I'll wear her type of clothes unless told so.

The Best Way To Express Yourself: Be Natural and Simple

You look gorgeous lady! This is one of the many words that a guy will say to a girl if the latter looks trendy and fashionable. In the world of showbiz, fashion basically pertains to the way a certain person expresses herself by the way she looks or she dresses with style. For the past decades, the word fashion usually pertains to women and the way they dress. But now, the word fashion can already be adopted by men not only by the way they dress, but also the way they look. In short, we can say that fashion is not only about the way we dress, but is also about the way we want to live, and to be recognized by the people. Indeed, fashion can change the way you look if you know how to mix up with different styles and designs. But of course, not all people, who are fashionable, can look good because it still depends whether he or she has the guts to carry the looks. People who engage in showbiz are usually the ones tagged as fashion icon among the youth. This is because these types of people are usually the ones who have the money and resources to change the way they look by buying stylish clothes, and by engaging in different cosmetic treatments that can change the way they look. But we should also know that there are a lot of showbiz people who are simple yet still being loved and idolized by the people.

As what I have read from Elle magazine, Twilight lead actress, Kristen Stewart, said that being nominated in Oscars for best actress award, and having won a couple of recognition on her stint in Twilight and New Moon doesn’t involve any fashion at all. We all know that Kristen Stewart is a tough, serious and shy-type girl. She used these personalities in her movie because these traits are already known to her. She did not change the way she dress or the way she behave in any of the events that she had attended. She boldly said that she just acted the way she is in her stint in Twilight and New Moon, and at the same time she is happy because people still idolize and like her despite of her a bit boring performance in both of her movies. She even said that she wants people to remember her not the way she looks in Twilight or any of her movies, but by something more important to her, which is to be remembered as the real Kristen Stewart outside showbiz.

In line with my example in the previous paragraph, I believe that fashion indeed can change the way we look, but we should still keep it mind that dressing the way we want to be is still the best way to express ourselves. We should avoid mimicking or copying how other people dress or how other people look if we don’t like them at all. Of course, there’s nothing bad in being trendy and fashionable, but we should know our limitations because transforming from an old look to a new look might also change the way we behave and at the same time might change the way other people look to us. Other people might misinterpret us if we change our looks all of a sudden. In short, what I wanted to say is that our personality should not be carried away by the way we dress. Our personality should still remain intact despite having different looks. Though at the end of the day, being natural and simple is still the best way to express yourself. This is because people have already get used by the way you dress. Changing the way we look might have a negative effect on our part especially if our personality also changes too. Keep in mind that fashion is there to guide us on how the way we dress, but our personality must not be carried away by the new way we dress.

The Fine Line Between Fashion and Style

“Can’t fat people understand, they absolutely can’t pull off leggings—unless the poor stretched out leggings is black of course.” She said with grin plastered on her face. Her perfect nails, gleaming with perfect coating from the light, boots clamped shut around her thin red stocking covered legs and a black plain trench coat covers her black pencil skirt over a white sleeveless blouse.

It’s amazing how a mere collection of smooth, glossy, printed paper could control a person—better yet; a whole community. At the start of the entry, I wrote a common comment going around the lips of naturally ‘in’ people. The fashion world is nasty-comment, after nasty comment—or so those at the end of the nasty-comment would say, but being a person that follows the trends closely, I’ve realized that the ‘in’ crowds don’t just say those ‘nasty’ comments because they want to—they just can’t help themselves. In a world lead by The Word of the recently considered ‘hot designer’, it is inevitable for those into fashion to not be so meticulous about the world around them. But of course it is unfair to see this as the only down side of the problem; the eyes to which those who don’t care about the latest fads have to be heard as well. I, myself don’t really give a second thought to what I wear before, and when I view those that would constantly watch the Lifestyle Network and subscribe to the Preview magazine as zombies. ‘Have they no consideration for comfort?’ I had thought then. Back then I had the notion that being in-style means to be in-uncomfortable clothing. I had thought that watching eagerly at the appearing fads is something only a ‘no-brainer’ could do, but after picking one (magazine) up and reading through it, I found out that being in-style does have its perks. Having the proper outfit at some events would score you credibility points, and being conscious about the way you dress means having others stop being conscious about it.

ELLE magazine had broken one of the most scared rules of the fashion industry and that was ‘Size Matters’. In a new issue they had proposed to use plus size women at the cover front of their new release. Things like this, had earned an earful applause from the stands and other enthusiasts, and I say why not? Fashion is for everyone—no matter the size, as long as they use the basics of mix’n’match, walk with confidence and strut their stuff, people would realize that definitely ‘size’ is just a fallacy in fashion. Plus or not, everyone can afford to look great and feel great.

"Fashion lapses, but Style is eternal" - Nina Garcia

FASHION! (It’s effect to society can only be written in capitalized letters and an exclamation point) It’s a blind spot and a source of power at the same time. Those that could manipulate and stick with the trends would benefit a lot from it. It does not imply that being ‘in the trends’ would automatically sell your soul to the mindless world of simply following trends, because a) everyone has their own fashion to follow and b) being updated with the trends brings along a lot of positive effects. Learning ‘How to’s, and ‘What goes together’ can also be taken as a suggestion—not an absolute order—some people would take it, piece it together, and make it their own. Fashion is merely an ingredient of a person’s expression of self, and once it’s use to its fullest capabilities and mixed with the personality of the dresser then it becomes Style.

Watch the change, and see how manipulating trends can move to your advantage!

Rethinking the Height of Fashion

Rethinking the Height of Fashion

Strappy heels may be sexy, but they can pose serious health risks, according to research. If giving up high heels is too much to ask for, take steps (excuse the pun) towards choosing a better fit. Trevor Prior, consultant podiatric surgeon with the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, doesn’t recommend that women should wear high heel shoes, but he does offer these tips for making a smarter purchase:

Simple but elegant heels

1. Make sure the toe box is the shape of your foot (and not any narrower) and is 1cm longer than your big toe.

2. The more padding the better - consider inserts.

3. A strong strap over the arch of the foot can help stop the foot slipping and better provide support.

4. How low can you go? Don’t choose heels higher than an inch.

5. Stilletos do not provide enough support, so go for a wide or thick heel.

There are lots of new Fashion trends as years go by. Of course, we ladies have the tendency to follow the latest fashion trends. No matter how uncomfortable or uneasy they are in their outfit, the important thing is that they are “IN” with the new.

Wearing strappy high heels tops the latest trends nowadays. Sex and the city stars, actress Gwyneth Paltrowand other Hollywood actresses popularized these kind of fashion style. But behind your really cool and attractive fashion statement with matching high heels costs you risksthat can give you a long-term damage to your feet – which decreases your chances of wearing high heels again. Women who wear high heels suffer permanent body problems that were proven by many studies and researches. The higher the heels of your shoes, the higher the pressure is given to your muscles. Your muscles at your feet usually contracts when you walk in high heels. This can damage your whole body particularly your hips, shoulders, knees and toes. Eventually, you’ll lose your balance and your body posture. So if you think you have the perfect body posture when wearing high heels, well then think twice ladies. =) I’m not saying that you can NEVER use high heels. The tips offered at the article above can help you get in the latest trends without hurting yourself. You can wear high heels occasionally. Besides, there are heels that can give you comfort even if you’re at work such as heels less than an inch or those wide heels that provides support.

For public information, seriously, you might end up like this when you wear high heels everyday.

Talking about fashion in shoes, this is a big “NO”. Who would want to wear these high heels?

So, why take these risks just to fit in? Don’t be deceived by the commercial or advertisements. Choose those that you’re comfortable with. Pain should not be the price of fashion. Comfort is the priority. Besides, you can still be in style even if you don’t wear high heels. The important thing is you’re confident and you can bring what you wear.

So ladies, girls and gals, just be true to yourself, choose your own creative style and go for it! That's what fashion is all about.J

Women's Clothing Trends for spring 2010

In the article that I have read, a lot of fashion experts are thinking of bringing back much of those fashion trends that were ones popular. Women s clothing are changing each and every time but if you would notice, some seems to be familiar because some clothes are the ones that were famous for the 70s an 80s. some clothes that we are or most of the people are wearing are those with shoulder pads because they looked nice for those with average or tall height. It also looks nice with some chains, even some formal clothes are coming with these. But it is also recommended that we choose are clothes that are fit for our body. Fringes is also a design from the past. Double Denim is the most trendy in France and in UK. You can wear it with a shirt that comes with a denim jacket. If your wardrobe has a lot of denim then this trend will suit you. You just need to choose what fits you best.
The article was not too long and yet it gave me a lot of information. This can help you to be on the trend for the coming spring so that you would look nice in public. It can also give some advice for you to have knowledge of what to wear or what are the latest clothes. It also telling us to think twice before buying clothes that you would place in you wardrobe, buy only those that really fits you well.

It's not so long as I have written a while a go, that's why it doesn't give that much kinds of clothing's and things that you could match in each or most of the clothes that we're wearing for almost everyday. It also doesn't provide that much pictures of clothes that would be trendy for the spring 2010. it focused on three main trends of clothes that would be nice for the season. It also gives us information of how to use your old clothes in a nice way, that you would still be in fashion.

I like the topic, so I didn't get bored. Its fun to read articles or magazines that are about fashion. Its for us to be knowledgeable of whats happening in the outside world. Its just like reading news papers for you to know what are the things that happens in each and everyday of your life. Even if like me I don't buy much dress or clothes you still need to be noticed of what o people wear nowadays. Fashion is one type of having information that you wouldn't know if you do not read these kinda things.

Have a nice and fashionably day to all!!!

A Dandy's Wardrobe

As I was browsing at the pages of the current issue of Time Magazine, it dawned on me how much people nowadays are so engrossed with fashion – the latest trend, the fusses and the frills, and the like. Well, there is none who is well worth the blame. That is human nature – we are never contented of what we have – something which I myself confess. Gone are the days when dressing up took a minute or two – ample time to put up the shirt, jeans, and the shoes and whatnot. Funny thing is, because of too much wild imagination and varied thoughts which I suppose a room for jeopardy, people usually end up desperate to show-off, causing much to the delight of many faultfinders and fashion critics. The article gives a nutshell with regard to this matter, focusing on the world leaders. Yeah, the Top Ten Worst Dressed World Leaders. And this made me reminisce the Oscars Worst Dressed 2010.

Prom Queen

Zoe Saldana looks like she got lost on the way to the prom. Her sparkly Givenchy dress has a blinding top, and the bottom full of light purple ruffles makes her look like a flower in bloom.

Flower Power

Created by John Galliano for Dior, this strapless, sweeping floor length pink dress could do without the prominent petals on Charlize Theron's chest. We can't quit staring, and it pulls away from what we should be looking at: her face.

Flesh Tone

Anna Kendrick says her Elie Saab dress, which also appeared on the haute couture runways in January, was a last-minute decision. The 'Up in the Air' actress admits she gave up a blue dress for a flesh-tone one. Sorry, Anna but wearing a dress the same color of your skin tone is a red carpet no-no.

Fabric Overload

We understand Jennifer Lopez loves to show off all her assets, but this futuristic, tiered and bunched Armani Prive dress weighs her down. We really wish she would have had a 'Back-Up Plan' for this year's Oscars.

Oh, Miley

Miley Cyrus looked like a hot mess with the frumpy hair bump and low cut Jenny Packham dress. Let's not forget, she is 17 years old, but if she's going to show up to the Oscars, she needs to show some class. And the tan lines could use some work.

Bow Tie Blues

What is with that gigantic blue bow tie, horn rim glasses and sneakers? Robert Downey Jr. may have a great taste in roles, but his fashion sense still needs work.

Old School

Diane Kruger showed up in an elaborate Chanel gown with a gathered black collar and we think she's stuck in another century. The 'Inglourious Bastards' starlet looks old and rugged in this gown. Diane is definitely not a winner on the red carpet this year.

Brat Pack

While Nicole Richie shined, Joel Madden looked more geek than chic with old school hipster glasses, bow tie and slicked back hair. We can't forgive this one, even if he is the official 2010 Oscars DJ.

Eco-Friendly

There is nothing wrong with letting the 'Avatar' director James Cameron shine on his night, but Suzy Amis should have at least wore a little eyeliner. And while the Jillian Granz dress is an eco-friendly choice, it wouldn't hurt Suzy to wear a dress that showed off her body better.

Mellow Yellow

Sarah Jessica Parker looks mellow yellow wearing Chanel, but she has a whole lot of hair. We're pretty sure Carrie Bradshaw would not approve of these extensions. Plus, the awkwardly placed flowers and form of the gown hang on this skinny star.

Golden Star

And the Oscar goes to ... oh wait, that's just Sandra Bullock walking the red carpet. We're so intrigued with the details, but she looks more like an Olympic skater than an Oscar nominee in her Marchesa dress.

Ruffles, Ruffles

Vera Farmiga, who earned her first Oscar nod this year, was red carpet ready in a ruffled Marchesa gown, but the retro updo, bright berry lip color and bunch ruffles make her look like a Spanish flamenco dancer.

After reading this, I quickly ran and went into the front of the mirror, contemplating and keenly observing the exact facsimile of myslef. Whoa! The view was fabulous. The man in the mirror is really cute and awesome (Am I that conceited? No, just think of this as improving one’s self-esteem). I checked his clothes, the way he wears this and that, everything. I guess he’s really naive when it comes to the latest trend. I guess fashion is not superior in the list of his priorities. Maybe he should have worn those intricately-designed and fancy shirts (those who display a small crocodile in the upper left portion of the apparel) , but he chose to be plain with a shirt he thinks is comfortable and fit for his physique. Meaning, fashion, to him, is not well worth the most of his time. And it is something which does not make him ballistic.

Simple as I am, I am not really into fashion. I don’t know. Maybe I was brought up by my parents this way or probably because I simply find this stuff a bit petty. To spend a number of bucks just only to showcase these material things and make an impression is, I’m sorry for those who’ll be offended, a very stupid thing! I’d rather use my riches in devouring my favourite Takuyaki than waste my penny on a pair of Havaianas flip-flops. I’d rather buy books than purchase expensive yet bum items in The Power Plant. I’d rather treat my date a sumptuous dinner than have quenched my bogus thirst with Java Chip Frap in the Starbucks (Hell, a coffee worth P200?). Well, it’s anyone’s choice. And I choose to be me. It’s not that I deprive myself of those things. I can afford all of those stuffs; however, I have too many priorities to consider first and foremost. Going into the other side of the fence where majority of people are in, they would pick this, bag that, shop this, cart that. And after then, they would be bragging about these things like hell. Mind you, they will egg you, bug you, piss you off, and make your jittery during the most of your day. They will scrutinize you and then will give a look of disgust. Oh my gosh, you don’t have these, they say. Isn’t this worth a look of scorn? I extremely feel pity for them for they are not aware that it’s not the plain folks who are cheap. It’s themselves who are cheap. No wonder they easily captured the heart of their fellow peers in the club.

Indeed, time is running fast. And so with the transition in our lifestyle. Everything will let us succumb with the inevitable. Stand out, know what you want, step out of your comfort zones, and explore what the fashion world has to offer – as long as you don’t make yourself the butt of jokes of many. After all, as Richard Eberheart put it, “Style is the perfection of a point of view.” And I don't owe anyone any explanation because dandy is what I am. Wear to express, not to impress!

P.S.
I hope I will never be part of Oscars or any fashion-oriented stuff’s Worst Dressed Individual. Not yet anyway.
