Six Impossible Things

Alice survived Wonderland. Well, sort of...

Waking up in a world of uncertainties and impossibles, Alice experienced everything that was Wonderland... A place where, flowers are talking, rabbit run late, and potions and cakes make you grow or shrink, it's a dream. PERIOD.

I had my six impossible things too, you know:

If Alice had a potion that can make her small, I had a tendency to look down on myself.
Believe it or not, I may talk endlessly and somehow exude self-confidence but I still have a tendency to evaluate myself. Whenever, I'm alone I write things in a piece of paper like: practice English grammar, try getting on a diet, focus more on studies, you're losing yourself and blah blah blah... I question myself so much, that I am my own insecurity. In my family, I'm the only one who can't play an instrument and I feel so down already. They say, that it's because I was 'attention-deprived' when I was a kid... but I somehow fixed that. Highlight: somehow

If Alice had a cake that can make her grow, I have a pill called Cherifer.
Yes, I still take Cherifer! I'm a flat 5'0 and I want another number next to it. Hell, 5'2 is my goal, two inches to go!
If Alice's animals can talk, my magic eight ball always answered my questions, in yes, no, maybe and later.
I have two magic eight balls, the black and red one. I believe so much in things like charms, luck and magic eight balls that my family finds it amusing. But every time I was right, I always felt smug. I once shaked the eight ball and asked, "Will I pass UP?" Magic eight ball answered, "Definitely." My mom checked if I really did pass and when I got home, I did. I even had 'lucky' headbands and 'study' headbands that I wore to school whenever I needed luck, wisdom or fun. Yes, so far all of them do work.
If Alice's cats can disappear, my voice can disappear too.
Thrice in my whole life, I've lost my voice. All of them after Batch Cheering Competition. Splits, cartwheels and etcetera are deemed to be so easy that I can't do any of them, except bridge! So I show support with my loud voice, during those two days of practice and competition day itself, I never lose energy because I feel like if I lose mine, others will follow suit. So I'd rather lose my voice for a week or two than the whole batch lose their 'muchness'.
If Alice had Wonderland, I had Dollhouse.
Dollhouse is a series of short stories that I've written, a creative outlet. It's actually not very 'happy' since it revolves around horrors like enchanted dolls, voodoo dolls. porcelain dolls and Barbie. Yeah, I have a dollphobia. So instead of fearing them, I wrote a few to let out my fear... It was really fun writing about fears.
If Alice had to slay the Jabberwocky, I can pass the BSA program.
Can I really?
We defy reality when we live out our dreams.

We start doing the impossible when we've set our minds to it.

We stop just existing when we start living our lives.

Stupid Cupid!

We all know the song, right? But, there's another reason for having this title for my blog. For one, it's about Cupid's love life and how he had stupidly pricked himself with his own arrow when trying to drug Psyche, which in turn resulted to Cupid falling in love with Psyche. He was trying to drug Psyche 'cause his mother (Aphrodite) was entirely jealous of Psyche's beauty. Psyche, then, was a mortal and after that was a series of events of trying to get Cupid back after he had run away. And two, it's how I was stupid enough to get hit by Cupid's arrows.

I could state a lot of stupid things I've done with my life but not a lot would be about love in particular. Unless… You count the one when I threw a paper ball to a guy who happened to have had a crush on me. He got sent to the Discipline's Office for 'fighting' with my seatmate who he thought was the mastermind who threw the paper. Atleast, I know that I have amazing aim for hitting him right at the back of his head.

I've had crushes, Jacob Black being one of them. TEAM JACOB!

But… love and adventure? I tried once, when a guy asked me at prom, 'Pwede bang manligaw?' I said, 'Sure, I trust you naman eh.' Slow dancing, listening to music and wearing a pretty dress… romantic! But that didn't go well, complications if you must, but that has got to be one of the most romantic times of my highschool life. I still love that guy as a friend, a great friend in fact.

But my all-time favorite experience, (that now I regret because of my STUPIDITY!) was my secret admirer's message for me. First year in highschool, and pretty early in the schoolyear I got a message from a secret admirer. I found out who he was but I don’t think that he knew that I knew. I had a crush on him for two years in my highschool and I was afraid to tell him that I liked him back.

Sigh… These stories of mine seemed so private but I think it would be better to share them.

I love you all!

Not Cool but Coquette

"A fan is not for cooling oneself. A fan is for flirting. It is also for keeping one's hand gracefully occupied, and for slapping the arm of a gentleman who is too forward."

That is what young Whitney had said to her uncle when she had explained the uses of a fan in the hands of a young lady. When our professor said, why don't you blog about culture. This was literally what came into my mind; it was such a witty line of thought that it had been stored in my mind since I've last read the book around a year ago. I actually reread the first part of the novel which turned into reading the whole novel again for the whole day.

Parts of the historical English culture [1800s] showed up when instructors taught young Whitney everything she had to know about being a young lady, for she wasn't exactly the picture of a lady. To be trained how to stroll and not gallop and how to turn in a court dress with a train were parts of her training. I can't even tie my hair up in a simple ponytail and these ladies had hairstyles so intricate that jewels like pearls were used as accessories. They'd dance and talk in a certain way because they were trained by instructors; all the training I had came from my mother and it was just about how to sit straight and table manners.

I believe that there were a lot of proper 'etiquettes-to-follow' if you ever lived in England back then, especially females! I don't think I would've survived that well a century or two ago; no cellphones, no TVs and no computers with Internet connection would have been silly dreams unlike now wherein I have access of all three and more.

A good friend of mine had gone to a ball. That ball was everything like those in 1800s; he had to study etiquette, fashion and dances so he wouldn't embarrass himself. He taught me some table manners that I've never heard of in my sixteen years of existence. My favorites included the two weirdest ones. Let your food cool on its own; don't blow on it, and never cut bread, break it with your fingers. It was so simple yet I've never heard of them 'til now.

TGI wasn't born in the 1800s.

A Mixture of Art and Sport!

She was aiming for 10th place... but she got the 5th place instead!

That girl right there (look at her right now at the right side!) is Kassidy-Rae Browell. Nevermind that I do envy her name 'cause it's sounds so different, I still do envy that she is this fifteen year old girl that can figure skate. Envy aside, she's getting better each year. If you look her up on YouTube, there are 280 views since I last viewed, and the comments? They were from friends from school so go on Kassidy, be this big star 'cause now I'm rooting for you too. See that pose she's holding, yeah she's reaching for them stars!

So yeah. I've always wanted to figure skate but somethings have held me back and to those who've known me for forever know about my back (err, scoliosis) so I can't really take up too much sports except swimming which helps me get better. My blog was supposed to be about that then I'd know what I talk about but this is something that just goes on in my mind as fantasy. I guess boys don't fantasize about this but who knows... anyone from C31? hahaha. ;)

Anyways, I wanted to ignore what I knew for now. You know, learn something new! Do all those pirouettes, the jumps, the leaps and whatever. SIGH. I can only do that in my dreams because I really have tried ice skating on the rink... AT LEAST, I could walk on it but oh hot damn were those things heavy. I'm betting they weren't used for doing that pose (look up!) in the picture. But look here in the left, yeah that's my barkada in HS, my Lounge Kroo! This isn't the whole lot unfortunately but you could spot me and Zig at the right side. What was going in my mind? Take the picture I can't hold this pose anymore!

Obviously, a lot of us have fallen. Please, with cherry on top and all that, give us credit we've been trying to stand for a good minute or two and, as a result: friends pushed friends to get into the shot. It was a great fun to start our year, we did this the weekend before school started for third year methinks. Oh yeah, I fell like twice but no shot was taken, how unfortunate was that. So sometimes you can make your fantasy as reality, of course I didn't do twirls and jumps but feeling my skate-clad feet on the ice. Good enough! But one of the BEST memories I've had. Think about it, anyhting you spend with friends let it be dreams, fears and disappointments it becomes something you'd hold on. Even Kassidy up there had friends supporting her all the way thru!

Popcorn and Movies Are Perfect For Each Other (Sorry, Candies)

It's a match made in butter-covered heaven!

Popcorn isn't JUST a snack; they are the lifelong partners of theatres. Movies and popcorns have gone through a lot… Seriously! They even have a history together. Old times say that popcorn stands have always attracted audiences in large public group gatherings. With their hypnotizing and entrancing aroma, people are no match to the power of popcorn in food stands and theatres. With the help of popcorn, movie theatres have been able to up their sales, earning them profit during the World War II. Before that, theatres weren't thrilled about the idea for it seems messy and unworthy of being in 'movie palaces'. Obviously, they've surmounted that obstacle.

I am not exactly a big fan of popcorn but you wouldn't be able to ignore the popcorn stand standing right beside the door of the cinemas. It's like a temptation for moviegoers and a pull to our wallets. Without a doubt, it seems like tradition that popcorns are eaten in theatres because it's been with us for so long. I guess there are reasons why popcorns are better bought than fruits, trail mix, candies, sandwiches and nachos. However, it is nachos that I've always brought in because I like cheese.

First reason I thought of is because popcorns have many flavors: butter, chee
se, cinnamon, wasabi, barbeque, chocolate, caramel you name it they probably have it or they could make one. Another, they still taste good after a long time unlike sandwiches and nachos that lose their taste when it goes cold. Plus, no other snack could beat popcorn when it comes to lasting, chocolates would have melted and nachos would have turned soggy and unappetizing. In addition, popcorns are less in mess.

Spectacular! Don't you think? Popcorns have stayed for so long as THE snack when it comes to theatres. They are the epitome, the very essence of cheesy romance where you and your lover's hands meet. They are the comfort you munch on when you watch horrors and dramas. So do you still think popcorn is just a snack?

Let's Talk Shoes

Let's talk shoes. Personality Parade is an article about shoes!

Meghan Cleary, the creator of Shoe TherapyTM and author of The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You, gave Marie Claire a peek on what your shoes say about you! Going overboard and presenting every shoe ever created would give us a long topic to talk about so the magazine showed up four different shoes that 'interprets' one's personality. The lucky four are: safari/animal-printed shoes, wedges, tribal-printed shoes and the t-strap. The first is obviously showing off a person's wild side. The second is the practicality while showing femininity. The third shows the free and sassy while the last speaks of a party mood.

I admit that I am a sneaker fan but I do own other types of shoes. Actually, I sort of own a lot since my mom and I have the same shoe size which helps us have a variety of shoes. Out of the four that were mentioned, I personally own two out of four: the wedge and the t-strap. I have these two because they're the only type that I could walk on and to me fashionable shoes shouldn't overpower the comfort of one. Could you even walk the whole day wearing Lady Gaga's platforms? And where exactly would you wear it without being all Gaga? And yes, I love Lady Gaga.

Wedges are the 'practical' ones since it has support under your whole feet which is better than having all the pressure onto your toes. I usually wear these when I'm in the mood since some outfits look better with height (it totally sucks being short). That is where my femininity aura shows itself in my favorite pair of wedges. Oh and this little leeway could explain to you a bit of my 'why' I have it: My cousins are like giants; they're all around 5'6 to 6'0 so being the smallest at 5'0 I just had to wear wedges when I visited them in America and when we went to the Walk of Fame, I conquered the Walk of Fame in a pair of 3-inch wedges.

My t-strap was what I wore on my JS Prom and Graduation Ball. It's all party-ish and dance floor-ready but I still had errands to run, being a part of our school's student council and all that. Imagine going back and forth, I had to hold the look for the occasion and still feel anything but painful ankles. I had fun those nights being all dressed-up and dancing the night away with my friends then feeling the not-so agonizing pain the next day. The best part about is, the heel didn't fall off.

So shoes, in my opinion, really show different aspects of one's persona. You see the world with different eyes when you step into someone else's shoes. Maybe you see yourself with different eyes when you wear a different pair of shoes. Do you?
